Sage Advice For Using An Herbal Muscle Relaxer

Sage Advice For Using An Herbal Muscle Relaxer

More and more people are rediscovering the uses and applications of herbal lore, though most people are still unaware of some of the precautions to be taken. Still, things like an herbal muscle relaxer are not as uncommon now as they were a scant few decades ago, even if some people are still less than knowledgeable about the proper way of preparing the tinctures.

Keywords:

Keep an ear and an eye on the news and you’d most likely pick up a thing or two about some drug or other going horribly, horribly wrong. The side effects of modern medicine are becoming a major concern among some of the more conscious members of the general public. Drug interaction is also a prime concern, with several effects, some of which are potentially fatal, manifesting if a person takes the two wrong drugs at the same time. Nature, with its reputation for being harmonious and “clean,” is now being touted as a good substitute for drugs. As such, people are now starting to experiment with so-called “natural” cures, such as the use of herbal muscle relaxer tinctures.

Natural cures, such as an herbal muscle relaxer, are often touted as being much safer than their chemical counterparts. That is to say, they don’t suffer from the same possible side effects are are generally viewed as not being compounds alien to the body. Most people consider them to be better alternatives to conventional muscle relaxant medications, aside from the problem of availability. While these medications are effective if one knows how to use them and which ones to use, an herbal muscle relaxer (or any other herbal medication) can still have negative effects on the body. There may also be situations where the herbs will have no effect whatsoever.

A good herbal muscle relaxer that is readily available would be valerian, usually mixed with kava- kava root. Valerian is among the most common herbal remedies for muscle pain available on the market and has been proven effective time and time again. The kava-kava root is there to amplify the effects of the valerian, but may also be mixed in for a variety of other purposes. However, valerian is best used for smooth muscle tissue and is not as effective when used on problems caused by injuries. The analgesic, anti-spasmic, and anti-inflammatory properties of valerian make it a very flexible herbal remedy for dealing with muscle problems and low levels of pain.

Muscle aches and pains have traditionally been treated with horseradish in Russia, but it can also occasionally have some use as an herbal muscle relaxer. The effect is usually marked by a sort of burning sensation, which is a sign that the flow of blood has been stimulated and the herb is working properly. It has also been used for treating chest pains, rheumatism, and as a laxative. Chest congestion can also be treated using horseradish, provided it is combined with the right herbs and prepared correctly.

The fact is, there are various herbs that can be used to provide relief and muscle relaxation. However, it all falls down to preparation. For example, skeletal pain is best treated with kava kava, but the preparation for it would be different than the preparation used for the aforementioned valerian-kava kava mixture. Also, it may take a combination of herbs, rather than just a single plant, to treat some conditions, with little to no concern over the severity of it.

The Drought Within: Dry Mouth And Its Effects

The Drought Within: Dry Mouth And Its Effects

This article is about dry mouth. It briefly discusses the different causes of having dry mouth. It may be a side effect of different legal and illegal medications, a symptom of underlying diseases or infection, a secondary effect of having bouts of depression and/or anxiety attacks, or as a clear sign of dehydration. Also included in this article are simple steps to take to work around dry mouth and alleviate the feeling of dryness in the mouth.

Keywords:
dry mouth, infection, anxiety, depression

It is not a particularly nice feeling to wake up with a dry and sticky feeling in your mouth. It’s annoying and can possibly lead to a lot of different complications once left untreated. But what really is dry mouth?

Dry mouth
More commonly called as xerostomia by medical professionals, dry mouth is basically a condition where there is a lack of saliva in the oral cavity. It is colloquially called pasties or cottonmouth. In itself, it is not a disease, but rather a possible symptom of some other condition.

Causes:
1. Medications. Some medications may have side effects of dry mouth. Prescription medications for depression, anxiety, pain; and illicit drugs like cannabis and methamphetamines may cause dry mouth.
2. Radiation therapy. This procedure may affect the salivary glands and its functions.
3. Diseases and infections. Dry mouth can be a side effect of underlying medical conditions and infections like: Sjцgren’s syndrome, HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, anaemia, cystic fibrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, and mumps.
4. Depression and anxiety. Studies have shown that people who are depressed and/or have anxiety disorders generally have low rates of salivary flow.
5. Trauma to the salivary glands, or the surrounding nerves and ducts. This causes disruption to the salivary glands’ functionality and may cause lesser saliva production.
6. Dehydration. Water loss in the body may cause dry mouth.
7. Too much mouth breathing. Air entering through the mouth into the throat dries up the saliva in the oral cavity.
8. Too much physical activity. A lot of elderly people say that they get dry mouth after engaging in physical activity or staying under the sun for quite a while.
9. Aging. The body produces less and less saliva as we grow old.

Signs and Symptoms
· Difficulty eating, speaking, and swallowing. This is due to the lack of saliva in the mouth. Our saliva is meant to protect and lubricate the oral cavity. A shortage in saliva may mean loss of lubrication and therefore make it difficult for movement during eating, swallowing and speaking.
· Taste disorders. Scientifically called dysgeusia, this occurs when dry mouth is caused by damaged salivary glands, nerves and ducts. Sufferers may describe their food as having either a really strong taste, a “wrong” taste, or having no taste at all.
· Tongue pain. This is characterised by having a burning or tingling sensation on the lips, tongue or
· Increased thirst. Since the oral cavity has lost its natural lubricant, the body starts craving for more fluid intake.
· Mouth sores. Especially within the corners of the mouth.
· A sticky, dry feeling in the mouth and throat.
· A dry, red, raw tongue.
· Hoarseness, dry nasal passages and sore throat.
· Bad breath.

Treatment
At the moment, a final cure for dry mouth is not possible. However, treatment is mainly for keeping the teeth and the oral cavity in good shape and relieving the feeling of dryness in the mouth.
· Make constant visits to the dentist for oral check up and prophylaxis.
· Pay close attention to your oral hygiene.
· If the use of antihistamines or decongestants is required, check for those that don’t cause dry mouth.
· Increase fluid intake.
· Chew on medicated gum.
· Use carboxymethyl cellulose saliva substitute as a mouthwash.

Complications:
Leaving xerostomia untreated may lead to several other complications, simple and otherwise.
1. Gingivitis. (inflammation of the gums)
2. Tooth decay.
3. Mouth infections. (oral candidiasis or yeast infection)
4. Halitosis. (bad breath)

People may consider dry mouth an ordinary occurrence and put off having it checked for later. This is not a good idea because as it was mentioned earlier in this article, this may already be warning signs of certain diseases. Also, if left untreated, it may start causing you problems. If you start noticing any of the symptoms mentioned above, go have a talk with your doctor. Immediate action may save you from having more trouble in the future.

The Hazards of Over-Training

The Hazards of Over-Training

Physical training is to be taken seriously, but not so much that you cause more harm than good. Keep in mind that there are limits to what the body can handle. While it is good to exceed those limits a little, overdoing it can cause a lot of problems in the long-term.

Keywords:
knee pain, lower back pain, fatigue, muscle spasms, muscle relaxants

Physical training is something that is integral to success in a vast majority of sports. Being at the ideal physical condition for a particular sport, or at least as close to it as possible, is something that athletes in a competitive environment want to be in. They can go to extreme levels, enduring the most insane training exercises and diet regimen just to hit that peak. However, there are times when the training goes beyond what can be considered healthy, even causing some damage to the internal workings of the body. Muscle spasms, lower back pain, fatigue, and knee pain are just a few of the many possible injuries one can get when the body is forced to work beyond its normal capacity.

The muscles are generally the first parts of the body that are damaged when people take their training way too seriously, with muscle spasms and excessive muscle tension being the initial symptoms. The use of muscle relaxants may sometimes be prescribed to combat these problems, though others may prefer to take an over-the-counter pain killer to just dull the pain. However, ignoring or misdiagnosing these muscle pains can result in aggravated problems. Muscle tissue can be torn and tendons as well as ligaments can be injured. No matter how toned and how strong you make your muscles by training them, there are limits to how much they can endure. The more strenuous a particular exercise or physical activity is — the greater the risk for injuries. When your quads get strained or you can’t flex your arms without screaming in pain, simple muscle spasms are going to be the least of your problems.

Fatigue is also a major concern. The state of fatigue can make additional training difficult and, much worse, it can even take a toll on one’s personal life. The natural response to the onset of fatigue is to find a comfortable place to just sit back and rest. However, there are times when taking a rest isn’t an option. A person might have an important appointment to attend to that would force him to stay awake for an extended period, aggravating the already weary state of his body. The consequences of this can also extend to the person’s mental state, with slower reactions times and incoherent thought processes being not that uncommon.

For other sports, more overt injuries like knee pain and torn muscles are real risks that make physical training a carefully navigated exercise. Any activity that involves lifting weights that exert a large amount of pressure on the muscles can result in injury. Too much weightlifting, for example, has sometimes been known to cause lower back pain. As the weight is lifted upwards by the arms, gravity is pulling the weight down and most of the pressure concentrates on the lifter’s lower back, with injury being a definite possibility if the weight is suspended for too long.

The easiest way to avoid the above problems is to have a training program designed specifically for your build, with the stress and weights calculated so that they challenge the muscles, but not overexert them. Feeling a little pain when in training is understandable at the start, but if the pain is chronic, it is best that you seek the advice of a medical professional. Don’t wait until you develop a tolerance for pain killers and muscle relaxants to have your body examined for possible injuries or problems.

The Ideal Fitness Activity: Walking

The Ideal Fitness Activity: Walking

How anyone can get fit easily by doing what comes naturally – get out walking!

Keywords:
Fitness, health, exercise, walking, weight loss

In an ideal world you’d be able to eat all you wanted, do as little exercise as you felt like and move around just by flicking a switch.

And if you chose to sit in front of the TV all day stuffing yourself with cakes and ice creams, it wouldn’t make the slightest difference to the way you looked or how you felt.

In an ideal world, you wouldn’t have to worry about your lifestyle. You’d look and feel great all the time.

Meanwhile, in the real world, huge numbers of adults and children are obese or overweight. According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Sciences, heart disease kills nearly one million people every year.

There are many reasons for this. The time spent watching TV is just one. Working for long periods at a computer and an increasing reliance on the car are others.

And if, like many, you know you’re not as active as you should be, you may come out in a cold sweat every time the dreaded word ‘exercise’ is mentioned.

But here’s the thing, you don’t need to worry. There is an activity you know only too well that offers the perfect solution to being unfit. It’s called walking!

Just imagine for a moment what the ideal fitness plan would look like:

1 It would be easy to do and enjoyable for its own sake

2 It would provide a wide range of health benefits like:

- Reducing the risks of heart disease, diabetes and minor illnesses
- Controlling or reducing your weight
- Reducing your blood pressure
- Reducing your risk of injury
- Reducing stress and improving your sleep
- Improving your posture

3 It would be cheap and wouldn’t involve the purchase of lots of equipment

4 It would be flexible enough to adapt to the time you have
available

5 It would put you in control of your body and your life.

Walking is ALL of the above. It’s the IDEAL solution to the problem of inactivity.

It can be your solution.

You can stop your body going into further decline just by walking a bit more each day. All you have to do is increase the amount of walking you already do on an average day to 21 minutes (or 30 minutes over 5 days a week).

Then you need to do it regularly, making it part of your daily routine.

And that’s all it takes to achieve a basic level of fitness!

The wonderful thing about walking for fitness is that you can do it anywhere: at home, in the gym, in your local neighborhood or, for the more adventurous, in the great outdoors.

And it’s all FREE.

You were made for walking. Make it what you do best and make your body your best friend!

In the real world, walking can get you fit. It’s the ideal way to survive fitness.

So what are you waiting for? Get walking … !

Safety Factors in the Treatment of Sleeping Problems among Children

Safety Factors in the Treatment of Sleeping Problems among Children

It is not only adults that have trouble sleeping at night, but children as well. Like adults, children have different reasons for lacking sleep, but unlike adults, children have less options for treatment. Apart from some medication designed to fight ADHD and behavioral therapy, children have less sleeping aids to combat their inability to get enough sleep.

Keywords:
sleeping aids

Sometimes, it isn’t just adults that experience trouble getting enough sleep. Stress, anxiety, pressure, and work can all make a person’s problems with sleeplessness worsen enough to require the use of sleeping aids. However, these are not the only reasons that people cannot get to sleep, even if they are the most prevalent. In the same vein, it is not only adults and people put under tremendous pressure that have trouble at night and need sleeping aids. There are instances when little children need them as well, though they usually have different reasons for needing sleeping aids from the adults that keep an eye on them.

Anyone who has had children will understand that taking care of them can be a tremendous undertaking. To some, it is particularly hard during the earlier years, when sleep can be very difficult to attain and even harder to maintain. Sleepless nights and hours spent trying to figure out what is causing the child discomfort are not all that rare for parents of infants. While some might consider using medical sleeping aids as a drastic option in getting a baby to fall asleep and stay asleep, less patient parents might view it as a perfectly acceptable solution to their problem. That approach, however, is still being evaluated in terms of medical safety.

While it is perfectly acceptable to treat pediatric insomnia with milder sleep medication than those used on adults, there are questions on whether or not that should extend to regular sleeping problems. Some children simply have trouble sleeping, which can be caused by any number of reasons. Using medication is a touchy area for the treatment of these problems, mainly because the doses designed for adults might prove to be too potent for a child’s body to process properly. The lack of testing on just how much of a dose would be safe for a child to take is a question that lacks an answer, because there hasn’t been too much research into that area.
Most sleeping aids geared for children fall under the umbrella of therapy and treatment. There are a number of techniques and approaches used for sleep problems in children that are tied to behavioral issues, but the pharmacological aspect is only rarely touched upon. Doctors are apprehensive to suggest any sort of medication for pediatric sleeping problems. This is both due to high risk of side effects if given conventional drugs and the lack of concrete, solid options for medications that are geared towards use of children. The lack of research on the matter reflects the lack of willingness to venture into that area, ostensibly due to the higher risk factors involved.

However, that does not mean that medicating a child to sleep isn’t something that doesn’t happen. The fact that over-the-counter drugs that do this is enough proof that it is something that parents are willing to do. Statistics show that there might be two distinct patterns to how this medication happens, with one reflecting short-term problems and the other reaching into medication for conditions such as Attention Deficit – Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). ADHD medications sometimes have components that have the effect of putting a child to sleep, though this is usually just a side effect of the drugs.

The Connections Between Sleep And The Mind

The Connections Between Sleep And The Mind

The physical toll that insomnia has is a well-documented list of side effects and problems. While the mysteries related to what exactly happens to the brain during sleep are still being explored, it is generally accepted that a lack of sleep is related to a number of mental health problems. There is little evidence so far, there is adequate information to warrant full research into those matters.

Keywords:
anxiety disorders, stress, stress and anxiety, side effects, insomnia, mental health, depression

Even in this fast-paced and hectic world, sleep is one of those things that are considered indispensable. Regardless of how much stress is placed on someone, a person’s body and mind simply will not allow one to go for an extended period without some sleep. There are numerous ways to keep a person awake despite the overwhelming desire to go to sleep, such as caffeine and work-related stress and anxiety. The toll that sleep deprivation and insomnia have on the body is well-documented, but there is less concrete evidence on the effects on mental health. It is generally assumed that the mind does not fully shut down during sleep, but that does not mean it does not require a period of rest. There are several potential side effects of insomnia upon one’s mental health, some of which can aggravate the problem itself.

Among the most well-documented side effects of a lack of sleep is instability of emotions. People who frequently lack sleep tend to be moody and irritable. In some cases, their emotions seem to be on hair-triggers, shifting from “normal” to “angry” with the slightest comment. There has yet to be any form of concrete information on why this is the cause, but it is a well-documented problem related to insomnia. It is theorized that sleep somehow replenishes certain chemical receptors related to emotions within the brain, such that a lack of sleep disrupts the normal production of these chemicals. It is currently unclear whether being asleep cuts off production or increases them, or if it affects these compounds in some other way. There are other theories as to why insomnia affects emotions, but those also lack concrete studies to back up their assumptions.

One of the more infamous side effects of insomnia is depression, though it is arguable whether one is really a product of the other. In the same way that emotions are affected by a lack of sleep, one’s overall mood can also be affected by prolonged insomnia. Since depression is closely tied to one’s emotional state, the disruption caused by a lack of sleep can be enough to push a person into clinical depression. However, there is some argument as to whether or not insomnia is truly a factor for depression. There are some that believe that while there is a connection, it is more viable to assume that depression leads to a lack of sleep, rather than the other way around. It should be noted that, despite the ramifications on mental health, neither theory has been put under serious academic scrutiny.

Some have also attributed some anxiety disorders to insomnia. There is some question as to whether or not this actually counts, however. While there is clear evidence that connects the two problems, most are inclined to believe anxiety disorders cause insomnia, rather than the reverse. However, there is some data showing people developing minor anxiety disorders during a period where they lack adequate sleep. As with the above, further study is required due to the lack of any concrete statistical data to back up the theories and observations.

With Sheri O. Zampelli, M.S., CCH Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist An Interview By Laura M. Turner, CHHP

I admit, I didn’t know much about hypnotherapy, especially for weight loss. But the results are undeniable. So to find out more, I sat down with Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, weight loss coach and creator of Donate Your Weight (www.donateyourweight.com) to get the skinny. Here’s what she told me:

Q: Sheri, What is the background or history of hypnotherapy?

A: Modern hypnosis is said to have been around since 1776 and has faded in and out of popularity and acceptance since then. Sigmund Freud used hypnosis in his practice and his theory of psychoanalysis was formed based on some of the things he liked and didn’t like about hypnosis. Many therapists and doctors integrate hypnosis into their practice to help clients manage physical pain, break habits and resolve deep psychological issues.

Q: What is your story as it pertains to hypnotherapy? Why were you drawn to it?

A: I initially found out about hypnosis when I was desperately struggling with my weight and eating and went to see a woman named Dr. Nancy Bonus. She marketed a “non-diet weight loss program” and called her technique ‘visualization’. It seems that many people call their technique visualization in an attempt to avoid any negative connotations previously associated with hypnosis. The truth is, many programs using ‘visualization’ are using some version of hypnosis. However, the term ‘visualization’ doesn’t adequately describe the power of hypnosis.

The goal with hypnosis is not just to see or imagine something in your mind. The power of hypnosis depends on the state you’re in when you visualize an outcome and also the emotions you are able to experience as a result of being in a deep, relaxed, trance-like state. The goal with hypnosis is to get past the analytical or logical part of the mind and to access the part of your mind that makes automatic, impulsive, emotionally driven decisions. With hypnosis, you can help your conscious mind work in harmony with your subconscious mind so that eventually, you are automatically drawn to new behaviors without having to think about it or use willpower.

Q: Why would a person choose hypnotherapy as a means of promoting weight loss?

A: A good reason to choose hypnotherapy as a means of promoting weight loss is because hypnosis helps you get past the critical factor and access that part of the mind (the old brain) that’s like a little brat and insists, “I want cookies, I want candy, I don’t want to exercise.” That old brain (amygdala) wants instant gratification and rewards, it doesn’t care about consequences or logic. You can reprogram that part of the mind to look forward to health, fitting in smaller clothes, dancing, playing, getting off medication and all the other benefits of weight loss, suddenly you have its cooperation. Now your conscious and subconscious mind are working together. Your subconscious mind doesn’t care about good or bad, should or shouldn’t, right or wrong. In fact, the subconscious mind seems to rebel against rules, but it loves rewards.

Q: What would a private session involve in terms of expense and time commitment? Do you offer private sessions via internet?

A: Private sessions can range from $75 to $300 an hour. My per session fee is $150 but I prefer to offer six-session packages for $700. I do offer coaching over the phone and I will create a personalized hypnosis CD for the client after I’ve been working with them for about three weeks. The truth is, when it comes to weight loss, most people will not benefit from only one session. Weight and eating issues are very complex and sometimes begin in infancy. Solving your weight problem permanently usually requires work on emotional triggers, psychological triggers, habits, self-talk and self-esteem. It also includes making changes to your environment and mindset related to food, eating, fun, rewards and weight.

Some clients have experienced trauma or abuse that is the root of their weight problem. Food becomes a friend and excess weight becomes a security blanket. Unless trauma is resolved, the weight and poor eating habits are likely to resurface again and again, especially in times of stress. However, it is possible to resolve these issues and take back your power if you are willing to commit to the process.

Q: Could a person get the benefits of hypnotherapy on their own and how?

A person can absolutely benefit from using a CD recording of a hypnosis session. CD’s often work great for motivation and focus and staying on track with new goals. CD’s can also help you break habits. A self-motivated person with little or no past trauma or abuse might find that a CD is sufficient to attain their goals. However if the CD alone seems to stop working or lose effectiveness it might be either time for a new CD or time to see a professional who can help you overcome roadblocks that might be standing in their way of gaining the full benefits of hypnosis. Self-sabotage can also be a factor in the effectiveness of hypnosis. If a person holds core beliefs such as “I don’t deserve good things, I’m worthless, Why bother, People will think I’m snooty, slutty, selfish, etc.” then hypnosis alone may not be enough to overcome those beliefs. My book, From Sabotage to Success offers a wide variety of tools for overcoming self-sabotage.

Tips For Choosing The Perfect Tanning Salon

Tips For Choosing The Perfect Tanning Salon

Knowing what to look for in a tanning salon can make all the difference when tanning. Employees who are trained will be able to assist you to get the perfect bronze tan you are looking for.

Keywords:
tanning bed lotions

Tanning can be such a chore – having to wait until certain periods of the day or the right time of year. It’s a hassle do you decide that it is in your best interest to go to a tanning salon but you don’t know what to look for and everyone seems to have their own opinion. All you really know is that you don’t want a bad spray on tan. The following are things you should know or find our or ask the establishments before you go and tan there.

Employee Certification

You read that right. In order to be licensed to tan you have to be accredited and take courses. There are currently four programs that someone can train under. If you find a tanning spa where the employees are either not certified or certified through someone other than these four then do not choose them. They are:

The National Tanning Training Institute
International Smart Tan Network
Suntanning Association for Education
International Suntanning Education Institute

Each of these four, well established training centers offers certification to salon owners.

Continuing Education

New techniques and equipment are always being developed. What sort of ongoing training does the salon offer its employees, if any? It is important to keep up to date on the trends in the industry as well as the tools associated with it.

Warnings on Photosensitive Reactions

Your salon should be mindful of your health and have, by law, the need to have a list of medications, medical conditions and agents available that may lead a client into a photosensitive reaction that could occur when you expose your skin to the ultra violet rays. Your salon must discuss these issues with you.

Liability Insurance

Ask your salon if they have liability insurance. If they don’t then you should turn tail and run. Liability insurance protects you against any issues that may arise from the use of tanning in the salon otherwise if you get damaged you have no recourse.

Skin Type Determination

There are systems in place that can tell you what kind of type your skin is and this important to proper tanning as settings differ between light and dark tones, oily or dry skin etc. If they cannot tell your skin type they cannot guarantee a safe tanning experience.

Informed Consent

A salon that provides you with a list of things that could go wrong is a responsible salon. Though proven to be relatively safe there are still risks involved with tanning. The salon should have a form pointing them all out that you sign just in case something happens. This serves to inform you, the client, and protect the salon.

Promoting Proper Skin Care

Your skin is the base for a good tan. If your skin is one way or the other you can produce a bad tan. Your salon of choice should offer you information on what skin creams and lotions will be best for your skin type and to promote good tanning.

Over Exposure Program

A salon that is set up properly can design a tanning schedule based around your skin type. This ensures you that you will not over tan and will have a safer and more enjoyable experience as well as not wasting money.

Protective Eyewear

Is the salon you considering have protective eyewear available or demand that you use it? The regulations of tanning salons adhere to a strict policy of having people wear protective eyewear. Just say no to any tanning salon or spa that does not seem to care about your general well being.

Cleanliness

There are a great number of people coming and going and laying in the same tanning beds. Observe the business and take note of everything you see. Is there garbage on the floor? Are there sterilization chemicals to clean off tanning beds?

After the previous 10 questions have been asked should you worry about the price because putting a price tag on your health and beauty is silly.

Sexual Health Education: If the Condom Breaks

Sexual Health Education: If the Condom Breaks

This article explains why sexual health education is important to everyone, most especially for those young adults. This article relates a situation in which everyone is open to, the breaking of condoms during use. With the right education and how to’s, preventing STDs or even unwanted pregnancy is possible.

Keywords:
sexual health education

Sexual health education is important, especially for young adults who are just trying out and experimenting with various sexual activities. Schools play a huge part in sexual health education, but the best teacher, as they say, is experience. Parents, too, can help, but most young adults think otherwise, and tend to steer clear from their parents as much as possible when it comes to such a subject.

Either way, everyone should at least have a basic knowledge on sexual matters. No one should experience the anxiety of having to think about health risks and the possibility of unwanted pregnancy when one is physically intimate with a partner. Much worse, just imagine the stress it would bring to both partners when they discover a hole in the prophylactic product they have so often used in the past? Birth control products like condoms have become very necessary especially today when cases of AIDS and other sexually transmissible diseases seem to be on the rise.

But what does one do when birth control fails? There are a lot of reasons why the condom fails. Despite all the rigorous testing that condoms go through, it can actually break during the time of passion. It may also breakn when the condom is put on too tightly, or when the user forgets to leave some space at the top of the condom after putting it on. Or it could break due to lack of lubrication.

What, for example, should be a couple’s reaction when the condom breaks? The normal first reaction would be to stare astoundingly at the broken piece of rubber that was supposed to protect one from pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. And then, panic sets as the couple or the anxious partner recalls every fact about STDs and how they are easily transmitted through unprotected sex. In case this happens in the middle of sexual intercourse, simply stop what you are doing, throw out the broken condom and place a new condom on. However, if the condom breaks at the end of your love making session after the man had already ejaculated, have him slowly pull out and carefully peel the condom off, or whatever’s left of it. If able to do so, have both partners take a warm shower and thoroughly wash the genitalia with warm, soapy water. It is strongly suggested that the woman not douche if this happens. While it may seem the immediate thing to do, women must know that ndouching actually irritates the vaginal membranes and increases the likelihood of an STD being transmitted.

It also helps if one takes the time to sexual history with the partner. By beinge open and frank about your sexual past and encouraging your partner to do the same — both of you could develop a very special bond. If you have had unprotected sex, speak with your physician about having a full work-up done for testing STD. Getting tested several times within the year may be necessary if you engage in unprotected sex, and most especially, if you have more than one partner. This may seem overly cautious, but it is better to be safe than sorry. You will also want to pay close attention to any strange symptoms you might get that could signal an STD, including a rash, pain, discharge or fever. By having adequate sexual health education, a person need not fail in gaining protection against harmful diseases and risjs of pregnancy.
